He is taking the lead on this project and will definitely be needing help at the national and local levels. I've also CC'ed Bill Traynor. Bill could you put the adopt list on the site? As for potential interest...I'm assuming that every LUG [and BUG] will have one or more consultants will to carry the banner. That raises a good point, though. Maybe we shouldn't limit it to LUGs [I was also including Python groups, perl mongers, ...]. There are many areas with no LUGs but possibly containing consultants that would be interested. I think that for volunteers the limiting factor should be a commitment to contribute either a set amount of time or a specific service. For clients, the limitation should be both a broadly defined community purpose and an inability to afford IT consulting services. With regard to the second point, Adopt should provide matching service to provide organization with open source solutions for their technology needs, and provide long term solutions for IT support which will be within their means. I am pleased to see interest Edmonton. I am interested to hear more about the non-profit solutions that have been completed there. I will present a proposal for the Adopt mission in the next week or so. I currently don't have steady internet access and I apologize for the breaks in communication. -- From dle at sympatico.ca Wed Jun 30 21:21:44 2004 From: dle at sympatico.ca (Dave Edwards) Date: Wed Jun 30 21:15:20 2004 Subject: [adopt] The Freely Project Message-ID: <20040701012144.GV12817@sympatico.ca> I bumped into this via LinuxToday: http://www.jedimoose.org/freely , and thought it might interest subscribers to this list.
