[adopt] nascent ngo in Ottawa area

I sent the message below to adopt a while ago, but I guess
my email has changed so it didn't get through. I've
re-subscribed and we'll see if this email gets through.

--------------------------------------------------

I've been to two meetings of this group so far. In the latest
meeting, the person who is doing Communications has said she
will just use Google mail to manage the mailing list.

I did get approval from OCLUG to use their server if this group
does want a mailman list. The proposal is to offer them a self-
managed mailman list on OCLUG's server (eg, Council@lists.oclug.on.ca)
for a year and then re-evaluate the situation both on the Council of
Canadians side and on the OCLUG side.

I'm still attending the meetings (I'm interested in the group
for its own sake) and if they change their mind and ask for
a list I will post again.

I attended the kickoff meeting for an(other) Ottawa chapter
of the Council of Canadians. In that meeting, one person
who will likely be on the steering committee identified that
they should have a "listserv". I thought that was something
that a LUG could provide ...

So I'm looking for help in proposing to this group that they
use Open Source Software, and in providing (at least) a
mailing list for them. I'm thinking we might also mention
"web site" and "wiki", but we don't have to push.

Anyone in the Ottawa area interested? Please send me an
email and I will try to coordinate the LUG/CoC effort.
The next CoC meeting will be the third Wednesday of
November, November 21. I don't have a location yet.
