Intel has released open-source software to give Linux full-fledged support for 3D graphics, a move that could give its graphics chips a leg up over rivals.

I know that this will convince me to purchase Intel graphics until/unless ATI Technologies and Nvidia realize the disadvantages of not releasing drivers and hardware specifications. I don't trust non-FLOSS drivers, and thus far have simply not used these cards in 3D accelerated mode. I wonder if the purchase by AMD of ATI will make ATI more open than they have in the past.
